Biography:
Raised in Gananoque, Doug attended Loyalist College before embarking on a 46-year career in local broadcasting. He started at CKLC in 1976 where he eventually became sports director. He moved to television at CKWS in 1999 where he was the sports anchor until his retirement in 2022.
During his time as a sportscaster, Doug served the community, working with such organizations as the Kingston Voyageurs hockey club, Queen’s University Athletics and the Knights of Columbus Basketball League which later became the Pete Petersen Basketball League. He served the Queen’s Golden Gaels football team and Kingston Canadians and Kingston Voyageurs hockey teams as their public address announcer for several years.
In addition to reporting the highest levels of high school, college and university sports in the community he also made time for virtually every amateur and youth sport played, both competitive and recreational. He was a familiar face as a master of ceremonies at athletic award events and was always quick to offer support to many charitable events.
Among Doug’s many accolades are a special merit award from Queen’s University, the Kiwanis Club Sports Builder’s Award and service awards from the Church Athletic League, the Kingston Baseball Association and the local chapter of Special Olympics.
