KINGSTON & DISTRICT SPORTS HALL OF FAME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame Achievement Award is presented to young athletes, acknowledging their athletic achievements, academic standards and community involvement.

DESCRIPTION OF ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

The Kingston and District Sports Hall of Fame (KDSHF) will establish and maintain a fund to provide one or more Achievement awards each year to secondary school athletes to attend a post-secondary education institution.  The significance of supporting student athletes is to recognize and reward their combined academic and athletic achievements and to encourage the advancement of education by providing financial assistance for their further education.

The Board has determined that each award will be $1000.00.

The KDSHF in cooperation with a school’s Guidance Department will inform student athletes about our Achievement Awards.  Only those athletes who attend schools that belong to the Kingston and Area Secondary School Athletic Association (KASSAA) are eligible.  Information regarding the awards will also be posted on the KDSHF Website.

CRITERIA FOR ACHIEVEMENT AWARD

Any student who meets the following criteria will be eligible to be considered for the Achievement award:

  • is currently enrolled in a secondary school in the City of Kingston or a surrounding community (whose school belongs to KASSAA, or such successor organization) and upon graduation attends a post-secondary education institution;
  • is involved in organized sport within KASSAA and has a history of involvement in organized sport;
  • have a coach/advisor submit written verification and evaluation of the applicant’s athletic involvement. The coach’s comments should indicate the number of years he/she has known the applicant and briefly describe why he/she is a worthy recipient;
  • provides the committee with a transcript of academic marks. Academic achievement is one criteria to be considered, but not the sole criteria in the selection process and has applied for and is awaiting acceptance or has provided the committee with written verification of acceptance to a post-secondary institution;
  • is available to attend an award acceptance ceremony or be represented by a family member.

Prior to granting any money, the Achievement Award is contingent upon final graduation marks being received before or on July 31st by the awarded student athlete.

The awards will be announced by the end of September each year.
