Biography:
As of the 2024-25 season, Wolfe Island native, Jim Hulton continues to build on an impressive record as a hockey coach and leader in the Canadian Hockey League and U Sports.
After starting his Ontario Hockey League coaching career in 1998-99 with the Mississauga Ice Dogs, Jim has coached more than 1,000 games in junior hockey including three seasons with the Belleville Bulls and 272 regular season games, over four seasons, with the Kingston Frontenacs. Following the 2005-06 season, Jim coached the Royal Military College Paladins for one season before moving on to the Mississauga St. Michael’s Majors as assistant coach.
In 2008 Jim was hired as an assistant coach for the National Hockey League’s Florida Panthers and coached there for three seasons before taking over the head coach and general manager positions for the Tri-City Storm of the USHL.
Since the 2015-16 season, Jim has been the coach and general manager for the Charlottetown Islanders of the Quebec Maritime Junior Hockey League.
In 2021, he was selected the QMJHL General Manager and Coach of the Year and, in 2022 was named the QMJHL and Canadian Hockey League Coach of the Year. Jim also served as assistant coach for the Canadian 2005 gold medal winning team at the World Junior Hockey Championship.
In the off-seasons Jim has returned to Kingston to run youth hockey summer camps and clinics for young coaches and was the lead participant in the First Hockey Coaching the Coaches program in Kingston.
Jim’s commitment, integrity and dedication have shaped the lives, and positively influenced hundreds of players at all levels of the game.
