Megan Suddergaard (Pfeiffer)

Biography:

Born in Kingston, Megan was a high school multisport athlete at Regiopolis-Notre Dame and Loyalist Collegiate and Vocational Institute.

She earned most valuable player and leading scorer honours in field hockey, hurdles and the 4 by 100 relay in track, winning medals at both EOSSA and OFSAA in both events, and earning MVP and all-star honours in volleyball at both schools.

Her play in high school volleyball in Kingston earned Megan a full scholarship to Division 1 at Georgia Southern University, the first local female volleyball player to earn that honour.

With the Eagles, Megan was named team captain from 1995-97, and from her middle blocker position led the NCAA in blocking statistics, while still finding time to maintain a 3.88 GPA and tutoring fellow athletes at the school. Megan was recognized for her academic achievements, and her leadership abilities, along with winning most improved player, most inspirational player, and most valuable player honours. She was also named Scholar Athlete of the Year in 1995.

At Georgia Southern Megan is third all-time in solo blocks, second in block assists and second in total blocks. For a single season, she holds the first and fifth places for solo blocks, is first and second in block assists and in total blocks.

In 1998 Megan returned to Kingston and took on the role of assistant coach for two years at LCVI before moving on to the same position at McMaster from 2000-2005. She was an assistant coach with the Georgetown Impact Volleyball Club, from 2018 – 2023. In 2023, Megan was a coach with the Ontario Volleyball Association Team Ontario Development Program.

Megan won provincial gold with Waterdown at the Female Masters Volleyball Tournament and silver, with the same team, at the national tournament in 2006. In 2009 she won the Five Peaks Trail Running Series and she continues to participate in triathlon competitions, adventure racing and trail racing.

Megan has led a life with a passion for sport, a desire to help the next generation of athletes, but always as a quiet leader, respected by those around her.
