Biography:

Renowned in sailing as both a competitor and an organizer, Bart began sailing at the age of 10. He sailed International 14’s and in the 1960’s he competed at the World Championship for 420’s.

When he retired from racing dinghies, Bart continued to compete for 26 years in lake yachts, participating with distinction in the Lake Ontario Yacht Racing Association and the Eastern Yachting Conference.

In 1969 Bart organized the Canadian Olympic-training Regatta Kingston, the world’s largest annual fresh-water sailing competition, where he was also the first chairman. He served as CORK chairman for seven years.

The youngest man ever to be named commodore at Kingston Yacht Club, Bart held the position three times, and he was subsequently named an honorary life member of the club.

Bart served as a judge at the International level. Winner of the Province of Ontario Sport Award in 1970, Bart also won an honourable achievement award from the city in 1974, and the Canada I award in 1985.
